HELPFUL FRAUD PREVENTION
TIPS
LEARN TO RECOGNIZE POTENTIALLY FRAUDULENT
DEALS:
1- Use a
healthy skepticism and your own good judgment. 2-
Be wary if the price is well below market value. 3-
Using credit cards, or a reputable Escrow Service, is advisable. Be cautious of
sellers demanding you send them cash. 4-
Use caution with International transactions. A good number of fraud attempts
originate from overseas. 5- Confirm contact
information. Legitimate buyers/sellers will provide valid information, including
phone numbers.
- Please note, TruckSalesRUs.com does not offer
"Verified Seller" services or "Payment Protection" services, of any kind.
- Use caution when dealing
with individuals posing as a representative of a client.
- Never accept a cashier’s check that is over the price
of the item offered for sale.
- Never assume that because your bank cashed the check for
you, it is a legitimate check. Cashier checks can take up to 30 days to
determine if they are legitimate.
- Call the seller to verify the number is correct, and
working.
- Use caution with
individuals who only want to communicate via e-mail.
- Reconsider doing business with individuals who are
reluctant to answer any questions you may have.
- Obtain a physical address rather than just a Post
Office box and a phone number.
- Assure you are purchasing merchandise from a
reputable seller.
- Ask about returns and warranties.
- When purchasing a vehicle outside of your local area,
consider using an escrow service or alternate payment service.
- Don't give out your credit card number(s) online
unless the site is a secure and trusted site. Look for the padlock!!!
- Email the seller to
verify they have an active email address.
- Check with the Better Business Bureau from the
seller's area.
- Use caution when responding to special offers (especially
through unsolicited email).
- The safest way to
purchase items via the Internet is by credit card because you can often
dispute the charges if something is wrong.
- You should also keep a list of all your credit cards
and account information along with the card issuer's contact information. If
anything looks suspicious or you lose your credit card(s), you should
contact the card issuer immediately.
